Ada — NOBLE — Ariel Bayatfar and Kristina Gonzalez had three goals and two assists apiece, and Laura Reihart added two goals as the Ada girls soccer team cruised to a season-opening 9-0 victory over Shawnee Thursday in the first round of the Rose Rock Tournament.

With the win, Ada advanced to a semifinal showdown with host Noble at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

Ada built a 7-0 first-half lead without Shawnee managing a single shot on goal, then freshman Madison Gillespie replaces sophomore Taryn Jack after intermission and kept the shutout intact.

“She had six saves, including a penalty kick, so I was real happy with that,” Ada girls coach Tom Morrison said of Gillespie’s effort.

Bayatfar continued to add to her school record, and Gonzalez had a huge game in her first action since joining the team following the conclusion of basketball season. Victoria Lowtter had Ada’s other goal.

“We traveled six freshman and all of them got significant playing time,” said Morrison, who singled out first-year players McKenzie Lillard and Cara Flowers for their performances in their varsity debut. “We’re happy with the win, but we have a lot of work still to do.”
