05/15/10 - Cougs Play In Ada Area All-Star Games BOYS East 96, West 61 A basket by Vanoss High School’s Seth Wulfert gave the West a 4-2 lead with 7:17 left in the opening period. From there, it was all the East. Holdenville’s DeAndre Smith, who was named the game’s Most Valuable player, scored six points to highlight a quarter-closing 21-8 run, to give the East a 23-12 lead after the opening eight minutes. A 3-point basket by Coalgate’s J.W. Stanley with 1:07 left before halftime gave the East its largest lead of the first half at 44-24 heading into the locker room at the break. The West tried to do some trickery, and add some humor to the festive night, in the second half. Roff’s Aaron Cornell and Wulfert switched their uniforms tops (with Cornell even wearing Wulfert’s head band). But the deceptive and funny move did little to change the fortunes of the West. The East just kept pulling away. The East built as much as a 32-point lead in the third quarter as a 3-pointer by Stonewall’s Josh Scribner gave his team a 63-31 advantage with 3:33 left in the period. The East settled for a 30-point lead, 71-41, entering the final eight minutes. An impressive slam dunk by Ada’s Caleb Roberson with 5:02 left to play gave the East an 85-47 advantage as the East rolled to the 35-point victory. Smith — who helped lead the Wolverines to the Class 3A State Tournament — recorded a double-double with 16 points and game-high 13 rebounds in his MVP effort. Coalgate’s Nick Thompson led the East scorers with a game-high 19 points. Scribner also had a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Byng’s Sentro Burns added 12 points for the East, which hit a blazing 51 percent (41-of-81) from the field. Calvin’s Kaleb Blaylock grabbed 10 rebounds to go with his four points for the East. In defeat, the Roff duo of Dylan Lemley and Dayne Parker each scored 12 points to lead the West, while Konawa’s Zac Harjo added 11 points for the white team — which shot only 33 percent (26-of-78) from the field.
